Good point. But, one of our unix admins believes Ignite will recreate the symbolic links.

If you have MQ stuff in /usr/bin et al, you may have to use "crtmqlnk" after restoring as these would be missing from a fresh OS install.

I misunderstood my unix admin's goal, which was to put everything, MQ, MQ binaries, apps, etc. on SAN, except the (obviously) the OS. Then, when the primary fails, he would re-ignite the OS to the standby server, reconnect all SAN drives, bind the IP address and so forth. It sounds like it should work.

Not sure I am clear on if there is a post-ignite step of installing base MQ, then fix packs on local disk, otherwise it wouldn't matter that SAN is there or not. Besides CCSID tables you won't have MQ binaries. I might be missing something else, but this sounds more DR than HA.

Subject: poor man's HA
Our unix admin proposed a poor man's HA for server hosting MQ. If we setup the filesystems as per /MQHA (e.g. critcal filesystems on SAN) and the server failed, our unix admin wants to re-Ignite the server to a standby server. Ignite only restores the OS. So, if we don't restore the local MQ filesystems, will MQ start. I suspect not because the original local disk would have the CCSID tables and error logs. Any other reasons why it might not work?
