One can close comments to avoid trolls. I don't agree with his decision, and I don't think we'll necessarily always be able to rely on archive.org to back the internet up. We call this the "mem ory hole" in JZ's Cyberlaw course.

He is considering re-posting the archives, according to a comment he
left on his last post.  He also explains his rationale for removing
the archives:
