You might want to use mvEmbed -- it lets you embed theora using html5 
<video> tag, and supports a variety different media players -- vlc, 
mplayer, quicktime via xiphqt, and even native ogg support  as found in 
the most recent firefox 3.1 nightlies.  java/cortado is the player of 
last resort.
