Hi Pete, On Thu, 19 Jul 2007 20:32:01 +0100 Pete <losepete@...> wrote: > Having noticed that the cups package had been quietly >updated - I've only seen a netlabs newsletter #39 on >os2voice.org that mentions it - I thought I'd download it >and have a look. Well it did get reported on Steve Wendt's site - I don't expect any major differences between this build and the last one so didn't see the point in doing a major announcement. > I fired up eSeamonkey to check on Printer options. > > Wow!!! > > What happened? > > I did not even have time to get off my chair and go for >a coffee before the Printers page appeared - much faster >response than previous builds, couple of seconds as >compared to minutes previously. Yeah I see this with my Epson RX650 but not with my Epson C87 - I'm off work for two weeks starting Friday 27th July so hopefully I'll have some free time then to investigate this.... > I think this must be caused by the ppd file added to the >OS/2 pscript driver to provide support for the Canon >iP4000 printer which is a bit of a pain as it means that >the CUPS package ppd files just may not be suitable for >use with the OS/2 pscript driver... we already know that >they need editing to get them to work at all. Well - hopefully we can modify pin.exe so make these changes for us - we just need Bart to find some free time to either make the changes, or upload the source to Netlabs SVN so that others can make the changes. > Important!!! > > I went and re-read the post by Paul Smedley in this ng, >[Fwd: ECUPS + PSECUPS], quoting Rich Walsh and his >success story. > > The only thing that I could see that was very different >to what I was doing was the version of Gutenprint ppd >file used by Rich when adding the ppd file to the OS/2 >pscript.drv - his version was from 5.0; I am getting >flaky results from a version 5.1 ppd file. <snip> > Success!!! > > Both pages printed at what looks like the right size. I suspect that the problems with two page documents may be related to the problem you and I are seeing with the printer busy light flashing at the end of a job - I think in some cases the printer isn't getting the 'eject' message. Great investigation work Pete - I think we can really make some progress with eCups in the next few weeks. Without the work that you (and others) have done to test things and provide feedback, we'd be a lot further away so THANK YOU!!!! Cheers, Paul.
