i said as you said to try the mplayer -vo xv and all in the terminal
it only shows the list of available video drivers i dont know how to proceed
from there
any help about this

And friends i tried all those u told
i even have the ubuntu restricted installed but still problem exists

cdplay, cdp -- Program to Control & Play Audio CDs.

Summary:

cdplay is a text-mode program for controlling and playing audio CDs.  
cdp is same as cdplay. But it is an interactive program. It uses the
NUM keypad as a control panel to allow you to move track to track,
play, pause, stop, and resume playing of audio CDs.

Example:

$ cdp -- Start in interactive mode with text based user interface.

$ cdplay -- Start playing the Audio CD in the CD Drive.

$ cdplay play 6 -- Play the track number 6.

$ cdplay stop -- Stop it.

$ cdplay -l -- Slow start (Give some time for CD Drive to init).

$ cdplay table -- Show CD Contents.

GStreamer extra plugins
GStreamer ffmpeg video plugin
GStreamer fluendo mpeg2 demuxing plugin
GStreamer plugins for mms, wavpack, quicktime,musepack

everything i got from the repos

And i also tried that command prompt thing also
it said "cannot open display"

My graphic card is 64mb inbuilt

but when i installed ubuntu 7.10 i had no problem like this
i was playing video at ease

but now i tried everything but still the problem persists

now any ideas???

On coming saturday can anybody explain me

1. How to make my folders secured; When I am not in my seat, others should
not try to copy
    my folders in their USB, CD etc. Even password security will do. How to
do it on SUSE
    Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.0

2. How to automount a usb ? If I insert my pendrive in my laptop, it does
not mount the same
    automatically. I need to mount by going to super user mode (in CLI). If
I insert another
    pendrive in another USB slot (while the first is already inserted in a
USB slot), the second
    mounts automatically while the first doesn't. I use SLED 10. I checked
/etc/fstab and
    edited the usb mount point to auto mount. Even after the adjustment the
same problem is
    there.

3. How to interface GPS receiver with ubuntu ?

I will bring my laptops. Please help
