Re: [SPAM] - Re: St. Paul's College goes Microsoft - Email found in subject

In an ideal world, I would say that Linux didn't meet the business objectives thus M$ replaced it. In the end, customers would use another solution if one cannot address their business requirements.

In the real world (that we are in), there are so many factors to consider why Linux was booted out from this institution; And I've seen people selling solutions that are not needed in the first place (and IT has to fend off the issues that these "solutions" bring to their system).

We can only speculate on what had happened. (It would be great if the decision makers in this particular school could share the facts).

On the other hand, this is just one school. It might be worthwhile asking the PLUG what we can done collectively on those institutions currently running Linux-based solutions - are they still satisfied? Those institutions' interest in Linux can still be strengthened further.

In the end, if Linux solution doesn't address the (personal) interest of the decision makers, technology doesn't really matter. I always remember what sales persons would say - meet with the decision makers and not the IT administrators since the former has the check and not the latter. And this is one of the realities that is beyond Linux.

IMHO, it boils down to the IT head for that particular school… non FOSS savy will most likely be taken by M$

M$ marketing arms are good at that…

M$ probably gave a huge discount.  In return, they become a posterchild for use of M$ products in education.

Perhaps politics played a significant role that is why the shift or the FOSS implementer is no longer with St. Paul or worse the Supplier left them high and dry.
