FYI -------- Original Message -------- Subject: [HanoiLUG] [OvniConv] OOo extension available NOW!Date: Wed, 10 Sep 2008 01:52:34 +0700 From: Jean Christophe André <jean-christophe.andre@...> Reply-To: Hanoi Linux Users Group <hanoilug@...> Organization: Agence universitaire de la Francophonie - Bureau Asie-Pacifique To: Hanoi Linux Users Group <hanoilug@...> Hi everybody! I'm pleased to announce that after some weeks of work I finally succeed in totally rewrite *OvniConv* as an OpenOffice *extension* ! It's available right now from official OpenOffice extensions service: http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/ovniconv I still wrote it in the Python language, so you'll require PyUNO to be able to install and run it. Hopefully, PyUNO is bundled in every OpenOffice packages, just not installed by default, so the only thing you have to do is to install it. In a GNU/Linux environment you'll do this simply by installing some PyUNO package. In Debian/Ubuntu it's the "python-uno" package. I don't know the name of the package for RedHat/Fedora but a "yum search pyuno" should answer that question easily. Then, start OpenOffice and go through the Tools / Extension manager menu to add this "OvniConv.oxt" extension. Quit OpenOffice and start it again and you'll get a new Tools / Add-ons / Converter to Unicode menu => that's it! :-D I have tested this extension successfully with a few DOC, XLS and PPT. It should work on GNU/Linux as well as Windows and may be MacOS. I have tested it successfully on OOo 2.4 in Ubuntu "Hardy" (my development environment) and OOo 2.2 in Windows 2000 (at office). Please test it a lot, use it at will, and don't hesitate to *report* bugs!!! I have created a new mailing-list dedicated to this project development: ovniconv@...
