I had a site up on Zettai with the previous version of Plone 2.7.   I'm moving it to a new site with the newer 2.9 version

I can open some of them (not folders) and I'm getting various errors having to do with Attributes and Schemata.

Perhaps you're missing some content types that existed in the previous Plone site? I know that all Archetypes-based content types (Plone pages, Topics, etc.) have defined Schemata. I suppose I'd double-check to see what other products were installed in the old version.

You might find more clues in the logs:

{ZOPE_INSTANCE}/log/event.log

Or if you can reach the Plone control panel, try visiting Site Setup > Add/Remove Products. Maybe there's more information in the install log for the products listed there. 

Hm, now I'm reading more closely and I see that your version sounds off--the latest Plone (AFAIK) is 2.5.1. Are you running a newer pre-release version, or do you mean Zope above instead of Plone?

OK, a quick googling on

plone "maximum recursion depth exceeded in cmp"

reveals similar reports of recursion errors in older versions of Zope. In many cases, this was due to running with the wrong version of Python. Might want to confirm that your Python, Zope, and Plone versions are all compatible.
