You can always look at the table you want yours to look like and mimic
that.  For instance, if you wanted this table's style
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Hooks#Hooks_grouped_by_function
Copy it's first line:
{| border="1" cellpadding="5" cellspacing=0
