I think the BIOS holds 64k only, which is damn small... However, any recent hard disk loads with 30MB/s into ram, so I see startup times of 1-2sec possible... And if a saved image of the last session is shown on the screen while the kernel is loading, the user doesn't even realize the machine isn't up yet.

I guess it's just a dream though...
