Arnie your plants do not look like normal varigates to me and I have to agree with Hermine about chlorosis. Especially as it is happening over so many plants.
First check the pH of the water you are watering with If it is too low it can stop the plants from utilising the minerals especially Iron and Magnesium hence causing the bleaching effect.
Still very interesting though.
