According to the documents published in The Telegraph, Lasso held a meeting on March 12, 2007, with that purpose, as reported by U.S. former Ambassador to Ecuador Linda Jewell in her report on March 20. The banker, who had served as an advisor to former President Lucio Gutierrez, sought support from the president himself, Jaime Nebot and Alvaro Noboa, who announced his candidacy for the presidency in 2013 this week, to implement his plan. Lasso called them one by one to ask them to join an effort to counteract Correa's policies. He said that the business community's role is to challenge Correa's administration on basic principles instead of defending private interests. According to the report that Lasso gave to former Ambassador Jewell, he assured that Gutierrez was willing to work with the business community, but only on his terms. He added that Noboa did not understand what was happening in Ecuador. Nebot (current mayor of Guayaquil) is the most intelligent of the three, but he has chosen to exercise his role by defending Guayaquil's local interests, said the cable from the former U.S. ambassador, who quoted her conversation with the banker. Lasso finally rendered account to the Embassy about the advertising campaign that he would launch, linking the administration of President Correa to the government of Venezuela. sus/jg/abo/ocs/prl Modificado el ( viernes, 04 de mayo de 2012 ) _______________________________________________ Rad-Green mailing list Rad-Green <at> greenhouse.economics.utah.edu To change your options or unsubscribe go to: http://greenhouse.economics.utah.edu/mailman/listinfo/rad-green
