I always thought that the '79 and '80 99 brought into the US were a
very base 2-door priced below the base 900 GLi 3-door. I seem to
remember the 900S designation coming out in '81, and the GLi
designation for the base model was dropped. I don't have an '80
brochure to look at.

...who had a '79 900 GLE, which was a loaded non-turbo 5-door ...
except ours came without the power steering, which according to the
brochure was standard on all GLEs imported to the US. Non-power assist
was available in other markets long after all US c900's came with it.
