Aspects of Iconicity led by Prof. Ahti-Veikko Pietarinen. The length of the

post-doctoral positions is 16 months, beginning in 1 January 2014 / 1
September 2014.

Description of the DiaMind project

The project DiaMind: Logical and Communicative aspects of Iconicity (PI
Prof. A.-V. Pietarinen), funded by the Academy of Finland for until 2017,
investigates the logic and the theory of future and emerging forms of
thought and communication, and seeks to ground scientific and technological

discovery and invention on diagrammatic and iconic notions and practices of

representation. It aims at bridging the gap between meaning and expression,

thought and language, and metaphor and imagination, by applications of such

diagrammatic and iconic notions.

The relevant background studies and eligible research projects should fall
within, among others, philosophy of mind, science, logic and language,
diagrammatic logics and models, pragmatism, Peirce, cognitive and
communication sciences, semiotics, semantics and pragmatics. The project
cooperates with several units and research teams in Finland and abroad,
including the Peirce Research Centre and the Metaphysical Club at Helsinki,

The Nordic and European Pragmatism Networks, and the Universities of
Aarhus,
Tallinn, Harvard, Indiana, KAIST and Zhejiang.

Duties and eligibility of post-doctoral researchers

The two post-doctoral positions are meant for scholars carrying out early
career post-doctoral research in individual research projects on research
themes of the DiaMind project. The duties include modest teaching and
research-related tasks. Preference is given to applicants in the process of

forming a strong research profile and showing potential and promise for
top-
rate publications on one of the themes relevant to the project. Excellent
research collaboration and organizational skills required. For more

full-time work in Finland.
