I can't remember either.  I have no memory of such conversations.
Are you sure your memory is accurate?  Which tool are you talking
about?

Perhaps you're thinking of a LaTeX math directive, which I won't
include in the Docutils core until it supports arbitrary output (not
just LaTeX output).
